Character Counts! at Hickory Elementary

Hickory Elementary School students were awarded Character Counts! recognition for the character trait of respect during September.

Each month, one student from each classroom is designated as a Character Counts! Good Citizen of the month. Students are nominated by classroom teachers for demonstrating one of the six pillars of character.

The following is a list of those students selected to receive this award for the month of September:
Alyssia Balzhizer, Makayla Heagy, Daphne Wang, Hailey Lawhead, Andrew Williams, Layla Kadir, Moses Carr, Laniah Macklin, Corrine Carrazco, Madelyn Carr, Samuel Kline, Mariah Naugle, Stanley Reed, Tea Taylor, Louse Wang and Owen Wood. 

Alsatia Mummers Parade

One of Hagerstown’s most famous fall events will be going on Saturday. The Alsatia Mummers Parade will be held in downtown Hagerstown, beginning at 6 p.m.

The parade features bands, floats and costumed mummers.

Reformation service takes place Sunday

Concordia Lutheran Church, at 17906 Garden Lane in Hagerstown, will hold Reformation Sunday on Sunday. The community is invited to attend the 8:15 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. communion worship service. A luncheon will follow the late service.

Roller derby set for Sunday

Turner’s Skating Palace, at 17333 Virginia Ave. in Halfway, will host a roller derby competition Sunday at 7 p.m.

The doors open at 6 p.m.

The Mason-Dixon Roller Vixens will take on the Iron Mountain Roller Girls.

Pancake breakfast to be held Nov. 10

Cub Scout Pack 36 will host a pancake breakfast Saturday, Nov. 10, from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 17805 Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown.

The menu will include two pancakes, two sausages and a choice of milk, juice or coffee.

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for those ages 13 and younger.

Parents Day Out offered at church

The Parents Day Out program will hold an open house Thursday, Nov. 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1020 Maryland Ave. in Hagerstown.

The nursery/preschool program helps prepare children for kindergarten by helping them learn numbers, shapes, the alphabet and other concepts through games and fun activities.

The program operates from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Thursday from September through May.

Children are welcome at the open house.
