Prep Volleyball: Hubs sweep up 10th straight win

HAGERSTOWN — North Hagerstown’s volleyball team continues to win in dominating fashion.

Led by Peyton Wallech’s 12 kills and 11 blocks, the Hubs swept Fort Hill 25-11, 25-6, 25-18 on Monday to earn their 10th straight victory.

North’s attack seemed to be in sync from the opening serve, controlling the net and not allowing the Sentinels to get a rhythm on offense. The Hubs (10-1) blew open a 13-5 lead in Set 1, facilitated by Wallech and Zoe Schreiber, North’s other middle hitter. Wallech and Schreiber combined for 10 kills and five kills in the set.

North’s offense only got stronger in Set 2, racing out to an 11-2 lead before Fort Hill’s first timeout. Number 3 server Christine Randall had three service points before giving way to Wallech, who stretched the lead to 21-3 on an eight-point service — including a match-high five aces.

“(Our offense) all starts with the pass,” said North coach Megan Crawford. “We had a couple of breakdowns early, but we started moving our feet and getting behind the ball and getting it to Sarah (Bentley) so she could run the offense.”

Bentley had 27 assists for the Hubs to go along with seven service points and five digs.

“(Bentley) is taking her role and improving it all the time,” said Crawford. “She’s getting better and more confident each game.”

The Hubs found themselves down 5-2 to begin Set 3, thanks in large part to a four-point service by Fort Hill’s Haley Wolfe. However, they regained the lead with a six-point service by Lauren Serafini and never looked back.

Schreiber had eight kills and five blocks, Serafini had 11 service points and five digs and Lexi McCarthy had 14 digs for the Hubs.

Sarah Lowery had four kills and three blocks and Alyssia Whitacre had eight assists for Fort Hill (11-3).
