Robert Milton Moats, 81, of Williamsport, Md., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the home of his son in Williamsport.

Born Oct. 29, 1930, in Fairplay, Md., he was the son of the late Hezekiah M. and Lucy C. Hull Moats.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Belle Henson Moats, in 2005.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the S.S. Albany, as a radio operator, from 1948 to 1952.

He was employed with the State of Maryland, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Williamsport Red Men 84.

As a racing enthusiast and Wynn's Distributor, Robert enjoyed racing, from dirt to asphalt, from go-carts to NASCAR.

He is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Sheri) Fearnow and husband, Frank Fearnow Jr.; one son, Lawren (Buck) Moats and wife, Donna L. Socks-Kelly Moats; one sister, Constance L. (Connie) Walker of New York; one brother, Fred A. Moats and wife, Linda J. Moats, of Romney, W.Va.; grandsons, Gregory W. Hammond and his wife, Sara, Michael R. Hammond and his fiancée, Linet Reid, Dustin P. Hammond, Sean M. Moats, and Devon M. Moats; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie L. Swain and Doris A. Bowers; and one brother, William E. (Butch) Moats.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Randall S. Reid will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
