WAYNESBORO, Pa. — As finalists in an America’s Favorite Show Choir competition, Waynesboro Area Senior High School’s top vocalists are hoping to strike a chord with online voters.

The Wayneaires are asking for votes at to earn them national bragging rights. The contest is associated with Parade magazine, which is included in The Herald-Mail on Sundays.

High school senior Zachary Arestad said some of the other entrants have professionally made videos, while Waynesboro’s submission was filmed on a cell phone. The video features a medley of movie music from the choir’s spring show.

Arestad said he is proud of the group for making it this far in the process. He shared the news with the school board Tuesday night.

“They picked us as being in the top 15 because, I think, we’re a really good show choir,” he said in an interview.

“Now is the time when people watch the videos and vote,” director Eric Griffith said.

This year, the Wayneaires has nine male and nine female members.

Arestad said the Fox show “Glee” has increased publicity about show choirs, although he said the show differs in many ways from real-life experiences.
