Tech High to host open house Wednesday

October 22, 2012

The second annual fall open house at Washington County Technical High School will be held Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Prospective students and their families, and the public are welcome to tour the school and learn more about the 17 specialized programs and academic courses offered at Tech High, which is off Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown.

Enrollment has continued to grow at the school, with almost 500 juniors and seniors attending.

The combination of specialized programs and academic courses provides students an  opportunity to learn skills in technical programs which include Project Lead the Way biomedical science and pre-engineering, health occupations, culinary arts, multimedia and graphic design, construction and collision repair.

Tech High students have access to advanced placement, honors, essence and traditional level classes. Many students graduate from Tech High earning both University of Maryland and Career and Technology Education completers.

Students also have the opportunity to complete certifications in their fields. A number of programs have received state and national recognition.

All sophomore students in the county will tour Tech High in October and November.

Students can sign up to revisit two technical areas for an entire day in December.

Interested students can then apply to the school and are interviewed in February and March. Letters of acceptance are sent in April and an open house is scheduled on April 18, 2013, for students who are accepted and their families.
