Eleven graduate from correctional training program

Eleven men and women graduated from the Correctional Entrance Level Training Program during a ceremony Monday at the Fairplay Fire Hall off Tilghmanton Road.

Mark Vernarelli, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, said the training course was lengthened from 26 to 35 days to give officers more training.

“We’ve added a lot of physical training and ethics training,” Vernarelli said.

He said the officers also received scenario-based training.

All 11 officers will be employed at the correctional facilities south of Hagerstown.

The graduates are Mary Absher, Michael Christman, Nathan Ellis, Douglas Hoffman, Theodore McLaughlin, Aleksey Mikvov, Eliud Ortiz, Joseph Palko, Eric Wariner, Andrea Weeks and Wayde Yeager.
