Maryland’s early-voting period for the Nov. 6 general election starts Saturday.

Early-voting centers will be open from Oct. 27 through Nov. 1.

In Washington County, early voting will be done at the American Red Cross of Washington County building at 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown.

This is the third year of early voting in Maryland and the first time for a presidential election, said Kaye E. Robucci, Washington County’s election director.

For the April 3 primary, turnout in Maryland was 2.40 percent during the early-voting period. On Primary Day, turnout was 15.52 percent. Those figures do not include absentee or provisional voting.

Washington County’s early-voting turnout in the primary was 2.01 percent, the fifth-lowest among Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City.

The highest was in Talbot County, which had 7.42 percent turnout during early voting.

In 2010, Washington County held early voting at the former PNC Bank building at 128 W. Washington St. in downtown Hagerstown.

Robucci said the inside of the bank building was good, but there was insufficient parking.

At the Red Cross building, parking is plentiful, she said.

Voters should use the back entrance to get to the polling area.

There will be 13 voting units and four check-in tables, Robucci said.

Early voting will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The hours will change to noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, then return to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
