Washington County Public Schools seeking associate superintendent/chief academic officer

October 21, 2012

Washington County Public Schools recently began advertising nationally for an associate superintendent and chief academic officer, a post that has been vacant since Donna Hanlin retired this summer.

Schools Superintendent Clayton Wilcox said Oct. 16 that initially the job was advertised in regional newspapers, but school system officials didn’t get the applicant pool they wanted, so now the job is being advertised nationally.

The job was posted online last week at Education Week’s www.topschooljobs.org.

The salary range for the position is $93,308 to $134,048, Wilcox said.

Still vacant is the position of director for curriculum and instruction. Clyde Harrell held the position until his death in June.

Wilcox said there are no current plans to fill that position.

Wilcox said he wanted the new associate superintendent to take on that position’s duties, which include leading instructional change. He said he will wait until a new associate superintendent is hired to see if that person needs the director for curriculum and instruction job filled.

Hanlin has done some consulting work for the school system since she retired, Wilcox said.
