Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - Oct. 20

October 20, 2012

Thumbs up to Stephanie and Blake Nalley of Hagerstown for launching a local chapter of Faces of Loss/Faces of Hope, which is aimed at helping individuals cope with the loss of their child and realize they are not alone. In 2011, the Nalleys had a son, Bentley, who was stillborn, and they decided to start the group to provide parents who have lost children with a place to go for support and information.

Thumbs up to members of the Greencastle-Antrim High School’s Spanish Honors Society for raising money for impoverished youths in Nicaragua. The students are selling handmade bracelets and purses to benefit the Pulsera Project.

Thumbs up to the more than 75 volunteers who helped collect “boatloads” of trash during the Antietam Creek Watershed Alliance’s seventh annual Rubbish Roundup in Funkstown on Sept. 22. Job well done!

Thumbs up to area groups such as the League of Women Voters, the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce and others who have sponsored voters’ forums throughout the Tri-State area to help voters become better educated about their respective candidates.
