Crashes slow northbound Interstate 81 traffic west of Hagerstown

October 19, 2012

Northbound Interstate 81 traffic was slowed Friday afternoon as emergency crews cleaned up two separate accidents west of Hagerstown near the 5- and 6-mile markers, according to a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor.

One person was transported to Meritus Medical Center for evaluation as a result of the incidents, which occured almost simultaneously about 3:50 p.m., the supervisor said.

Two cars were involved in one incident and the other involved a tractor-trailer, the supervisor said.

Traffic in the northbound lanes was cut down to one lane for a short period of time as crews worked to clear the scenes, the supervisor said, which caused a considerable amount of traffic backups as a result.

Fire crews and police cleared the scene about 5:15, the supervisor said.
