June Palmer (Mahone) Kunkleman, 87, formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Homewood at Williamsport, Williamsport, Md.

Born Feb. 23, 1925 in Charlottesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Linwood and Inez Kathleen (Moore) Mahone. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Franklin Kunkleman, who died Feb. 21, 1999.

Upon her high school graduation, June attended Madison College, Harrisonburg, Va., where she obtained a bachelor of arts degree in education.

June was a USO girl during World War II. After college, she moved to Hagerstown in 1945, where she taught at Broadway Elementary School, Hagerstown, for Washington County Public Schools.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown, where she taught Sunday school in the kindergarten department for more than 50 years.

June is survived by two daughters, Pamela K. Mumma and Beth K. Adams, both of Hagerstown; one son, Carl B. Kunkleman of Sedalia, Colo.; four grandchildren, Liza M. Draper, Brian P. Adams, Karl B. Kunkleman and Kathleen L. Kunkleman; and two great-grandchildren, William S. Draper and Elaine T. Draper.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family, at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the pre-school/kindergarten department of First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Homewood at Williamsport will have a service of remembrance at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 in the chapel. This service is in remembrance of all the residents who have died this past year.
