Homecoming is this weekend

Boonsboro Student Government Association Adviser Mrs. Ernst provided the following information regarding Boonsboro High School’s homecoming activities: 

The powder puff game will kick off at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cost is $3 for students and $5 for adults. 

The Warriors will square off against Brunswick at 7 p.m. Friday at Warrior Field.

The annual parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Chicken barbecue planned Saturday

The Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co., at 7619 Old National Pike, will hold a chicken barbecue, bake sale and soup sale Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. 

Ruritan to hold annual fall festival

The Rohrersville Ruritan will hold its annual fall fest Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be children’s activities, including pumpkin painting and a costume contest (adults included) at 3 p.m. There will also be a free tractor pull starting at 11 a.m. Food will be available for purchase.

BHS Class of 1977 reunion is Saturday

The BHS Class of 1977 reunion will be Saturday at the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown. 

All class members and spouses are invited to attend. A buffet-style dinner will be served.

The class will also attend Boonsboro High School’s homecoming game on Friday.

Ann Palmer will host a welcome party at her home after the homecoming football game.

Rohrersville Band marks anniversary

The oldest community band in Maryland in continuous service since its founding is having a birthday.

The Rohrersville Cornet Band of Washington County will celebrate its 175th anniversary by presenting a concert Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Band Hall on Main Street in Rohrersville.

Holly Feather, band director, will share the podium with four guest conductors.

BHS band plans Tag Day

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Boonsboro Marching Band will hold its third annual Tag Day fundraiser. The band students will go door to door between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Boonsboro school district to ask for donations to support the bands.  

The students will wear their uniforms so residents can tell they are part of the music program. 

If you won’t be home and would like to mail in a donation, mail it to the school. Make checks payable to Boonsboro Band Boosters and mail them to Boonsboro Band Boosters, c/o Boonsboro High School, 10 Campus Ave., Boonsboro, MD 21713.

The marching band will compete at Walt Disney World in Florida in April 2013.

 ‘Tammies’ to perform at Weinberg Center

Affectionally called the “Tammies,” the Duquesne University Taburitzans are known for delivering a professional, colorful and high-energy performance of song, dance and music that appeals to the entire family. 

These talented young folk artists are dedicated to the performance and preservation of the music, songs and dances of Eastern Europe and neighboring folk cultures and are recruited from such far-reaching locales as Macedonia and Bulgaria. 

Of local interest, the “Tammies” include Rachel Powell of Boonsboro as their sole Maryland resident performer. 

The Tamburitzans will be at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, Md., on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m.

Fall festival set for Nov. 3

The United Methodist Women of Mount Nebo are planning a Fall Fling Festival Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
Various crafts items will be for sale, and several vendors from direct sales companies will also be on hand. 

Children accompanying adult shoppers are welcome to a craft activity.

Lunch will also be available for purchase.

Mount Nebo United Methodist Church is at 134 S. Main St. in Boonsboro.
