Mr. Arthur Carlton Huffer, 90, of Broad Run, Md., passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Tranquillity Assisted Living of Fredericktowne, where he resided since June 2007 after suffering a stroke.

He was the husband of the late Irene Elizabeth (Moser) Huffer, his wife of 62 years, who predeceased him on Dec. 11, 2006.

Born July 26, 1922, in Broad Run, he was the second of six sons in the family of the late Rodney J. and Alma (Poffinberger) Huffer.

Arthur attended the local Broad Run school, which was next door to the family home, through the seventh grade.

As he grew older, he worked for the late Rev. John Bowlus on his farms near Jefferson. He became a carpenter by trade and worked for over 58 years as a salesman for Ingalls Lumber and Supply Co. in Middletown, retiring in June 2007.

He was a 50-year member  of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, and was a member of the Burkittsville Ruritan Club for more than 40 years, serving as club president in 1976.

He is survived by his brothers, Merle Huffer and wife, Betty, Carroll Huffer and wife, Mary Ann, Richard Huffer and wife, Sandra, and Rodney (Bruce) Huffer and wife, Carol, all of Jefferson. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Leon Moser and wife, Mary, Boonsboro; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine McAllister, Frederick, and Doris Munson, Patsy Kline and husband, Meredith, Lorrena Wyand and husband, Chester, Carolyn Smith and husband, David, and Roxanne Stevens and husband, Harry, all of Boonsboro; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Calvin and Edith Moser; his brother, Robert Huffer; sisters-in-law, Ruby Huffer and Mary Lou Huffer; brothers-in-law, Denny Moser, Bud Munson and Allen McAllister; and nephews, Darryl Huffer, Darrell Moser and Steven Szwydek.

Special thanks to Glade Valley Nursing Home, Walkersville, and to Tranquillity Assisted Living of Fredericktowne, and their staff for their compassionate care.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 17,  at 11 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday. The Rev. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran Church cemetery.
