Salem Reformed Church, at 13182 Salem Church Road, will hold its annual Kids Fest and Trunk-or-Treat Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.

AAUW used book sale

The Hagerstown Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual fall used book sale Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gym of the Arc of Washington County, 1000 Florida Ave.  

Rose Day

The Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown will hold its Rose Day fundraiser Thursday, Oct. 25.

 Long-stemmed roses are available by the dozen in red, yellow, pink and other colors. The roses cost $20. Advance orders are delivered to customers. Roses are available at various locations on Rose Day. Sale sites include Gold’s Gym on Northern Avenue and Rose Hill Cemetery at the entrance on Memorial Drive. To order roses in advance, call the Boys and Girls Club at 301-733-5422 and ask for Debbie.

Women’s Club

The Women’s Club, at 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown, invites the community to its annual fall fest Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Homemade food, garden items and crafts will be available for purchase.

Soups, apple dumplings and country ham sandwiches can be ordered by calling the club at 301-739-0870. They may be picked up the day of the fall fest.

Apple dumplings and country ham sandwiches cost $3 each. Quarts of ham and bean, chicken corn or beef vegetable soups cost $5.50 and pints cost $3.

The club also invites the community to a Halloween card party and luncheon Wednesday, Oct. 31, at noon.

Participants can play any card or board game, and have lunch.

Reservations can be made by calling 301-739-0870 by Oct. 29. The event costs $12.

Crossroads Garden Club, which is part of the Women’s Club, invites the community to its annual fundraiser, the Greens Show and Afterglow, Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at the club. 

The presenter will be David Shover, a floral designer who travels around the country presenting floral design shows and workshops.

Door prizes of some of the presenter’s floral creations, raffles of gift baskets and refreshments are included in  the ticket price.

Lions Club

The North Hagerstown Lions Club is selling Sheetz coupon books for $10 (valued at more than $25) with an expiration date of June 30, 2015, and bonus books for $32 with an expiration date of Dec. 2, 2013.

Proceeds will go to local nonprofit agencies.

TOPS 0077

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077 had losses of 29 1/4 pounds for the week. The best TOPS losers were Kathy Freese and Mike Reid. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Kathy Renner and Lu M.

Dottie A. won the ha-ha prize. The no-no snack for the week is french fries.
 
Dottie Alexander continued her program on the exchange system. 

Monthly awards for September were presented. Forty-three members had perfect attendance. Those with perfect attendance with no gains were Joan Gilbert, Linda Lemen and Louise Horst.  Honored KOPS were Renner, Darla Hartley and Lu M. The division 1 winner was Linda Baker, and the runner-up was Charlie House. The division 2 winner was Pat Horning and the runner-up was Reid. 

Shining Stars were Dottie Zimmerman and Diane Keely.
 
Seven KOPS members were at or below goal for the month, including Louise Kline, Rose Shockey, Jean Betker, Deloris Hays, Judy Purdham, Lu M. and Maida Law. 

Mary Jo Cunningham received a birthday charm.

Nine members received a charm for a loss while on vacation, including Wanda Gerstner, Linda Baker, Inga Y., Joan Budny, Louise Kline, Peggy Robinson, Joan Jones, Deloris Hays and Rosemary Gill. 

Winners of September’s contest were Baker for TOPS and Purdham for KOPS.

The group meets Monday mornings at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave.
