On Oct. 3, Washington Township, Pa., crews dug footers for the five columns planned for the memorial at Red Run Park. Their work launched construction, which continued with GRC General Contractor Inc. and Valley Quarries forming and pouring the memorial’s floor.

Fundraising continues for the project, which has brought in about $45,400 to date. That includes recent donations of $5,000 from Eagles Club Inc. and $2,200 from American Legion Post 15.

The memorial will feature artifacts from ground zero in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the Shanksville, Pa., field where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed.
