HAGERSTOWN — A Hagerstown man has been arrested after a 13-month-old child belonging to the man’s girlfriend suffered a skull fracture on Oct. 3 at a house in the 18800 block of Preston Road, police said Wednesday night.

David Michael Malekar, 25, is charged with first- and second-degree child abuse, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carly Hose said.

Malekar was being processed to enter the Washington County Detention Center Wednesday night, a Washington County central booking facility spokesman said.

Malekar will have a $150,000 bond, the spokesman said.

After the child was injured, it was taken to Meritus Medical Center with swelling to the right side of its head, Hose said.

The child was flown to Children’s National Medical Center in Baltimore after medical personnel discovered the child suffered a skull fracture and other injuries, Hose said.

Hose said the child has been released from the hospital but doctors do not know what kind of affect the injuries might have on the child.

Preston Road is off Pennsylvania Avenue in the North End of Hagerstown.
