Recently, club President Randy Taylor presented Joe Scott the Perfect Attendance Award for having 63 years of perfect attendance with the Williamsport Lions Club.

Scott moved to Williamsport in 1948 and was a teacher at the old Williamsport High School.

He became the first principal at the current high school before retiring in 1968.

He has been an active member of the local club, serving as president in 1951.

At 97 years of age, he continues to serve the club in various ways.

WWII Weekend salutes the military

World War II Weekend officially begins Friday at 7 p.m. with a free showing of the 1944 movie “The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek” in Springfield Farm Barn.

On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be displays, vendors, food, raffles and other activities.

Battles are scheduled at approximately 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The 1940s fashion show will be at 2 p.m. in the barn.

The USO dance begins at 7 p.m. Admission will be $5 per person.

Vendors open at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The annual patriotic concert by the Williams-port Community Band will be at 3 p.m. and closes the event.

Slippery potpie dinner planned at Calvary Temple

Calvary Temple, 147 S. Conococheague St., will hold an all-you-can-eat slippery potpie dinner Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

The meal costs $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for those ages 3 to 12.

The meal includes chicken or ham potpie, applesauce, coleslaw, dessert and drink.

Quarter auction to benefit day care center

Kinder Haven’s quarter auction will be Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the auction starts at 5 p.m.

Admission will be $4 in advance or $5 at the door.

Bidding is in quarter increments for items including Longaberger, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy, Thirty-One, Pampered Chef, Cookie Lee, candles and other prizes. Vendors will also have tables with cash and carry items available.

Proceeds benefit Kinder Haven Child Care Center.

Spaghetti dinner set for Saturday

A spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings will be served Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Little Falls Presbyterian Church, 6788 Williamsport Pike, Falling Waters, W.Va.

Music will be provided by Ron Kyne on the steel guitar.

The community is invited. A freewill offering will be accepted.

Garden Club to meet Oct. 16

Members of the Potomac Garden Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Reception Hall of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Guests Curt Gaul, West Region ranger, and Lisa Dittman, National Park Service ranger, will share information about Cushwa Basin on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal.

Marching Band Extravaganza canceled

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Marching Band Extravaganza that was scheduled for Saturday at Williamsport High School has been canceled.
