Church to host Dickens Village

Otterbein United Methodist Church, on the corner of Franklin and Locust streets in Hagerstown, will hold a Dickens Village Christmas Fair  Saturday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
The Victorian Village, based on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” will feature handmade wreaths and holiday decorations, wooden items, needlework, gently used items and candies.
There also will be food  for sale and caroling.

Kiwanis Club to hold Rose Day
The Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown will hold its annual Rose Day Thursday, Oct. 25.
The event remains the club’s major fundraiser for its foundation programs, which support youths in Washington County.
Long-stemmed roses are available by the dozen in red, yellow, pink and other colors.
The roses cost $20. Advance orders will be delivered to customers.
The roses also are available at various locations, including Gold’s Gym on Northern Avenue and Rose Hill Cemetery at the entrance on Memorial Drive.

Proceeds support area organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, The Salvation Army, Children’s Village and local high school Key Clubs.
The funds also support annual scholarships to high school seniors.

Losses for the week totaled 26 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077.
The best TOPS losers were Charles House, Emma Jean Robertson, Dorothy Smith and Julia Shoff.
Deloris Hays and Mildred Hluchy were the best KOPS  (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers.
The no-no snack of the week is ice cream.
Cleo Burger won the ha-ha prize.
Judy Purdham and Louise Horst won the quarterly no-no prize.
Cindy Ryder led the program on “Is Stress Making You Sick?” She said stress is a part of daily living but too much of it can cause a multitude of health issues. She said exercise, deep breathing and meditation are a few of the many stress relievers.
The group meets Monday mornings at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.
