Grace Academy in Hagerstown named the Rev. Michael Cole as secondary school principal.

He has been on the job for about three weeks.

He spent his first week with the high school students at their spiritual retreat hosted at Skycroft Retreat Center. Cole had the opportunity to speak with the students and lead them in several spiritual development sessions, including devotions.

The retreat provided an opportunity for him to connect with students on a personal level.

Cole comes to Grace Academy from Westminster, Md., where he was employed by Carroll Christian Schools. He is a McDaniel College and Liberty University graduate and holds a master’s degree in school administration.

Some of his work experiences include teaching in an elementary school, serving as an athletic director, working in the public school system and serving as an associate pastor.

He is the father of five children, four of whom will be attending Grace Academy — two in the secondary grades and two in the elementary. His oldest son is a freshman at Clearwater College in Florida.

At Grace, Cole will be the secondary administrator in support of Headmaster Jack Appleby and elementary/middle school Principal Nikki Bowers.

In general, the leadership at Grace Academy is a team effort where most responsibilities are shared.
