John Lawrence Snyder, 93, of 9619 10th Ave. in Baltimore, Md., and formerly of Williamsport and Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md.

Born Thursday, April 3, 1919, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late John Patrick Snyder and the late Frances Marie (Bray) Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel May Snyder, in 2008.

He retired from Mack Trucks in 1982.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Carney, Md.

He was a life member of Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 and the Mack Manager Club. He was a past member of BPO Elks Lodge 378.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan L. Snyder of Baltimore; son, John Louis Snyder of Parkville, Md.; granddaughter, Christin E. Smith of Hedgesville, W.Va.; grandson, John W. Snyder of Belcamp, Md.; sister, Lois Dattoli of Walnutport, Pa.; sister, Doris Denning of Hampton, N.J.; brother, Joseph Snyder of Belle Haven, Va.; and great-granddaughter, Violet Jolie Smith.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Alice Mondoro, Peggy Jones and Joyce Merrill; and brothers, Bill Snyder and Raymond Snyder.

Services will be Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. George Limmer officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
