Mrs. Eva Maria (Ludwig) Chase, 81, of Cascade, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in the Waynesboro Hospital after a three-year battle with cancer.

Born April 24, 1931, in Breslau, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ernst and Marta (Hauke) Ludwig. She spent her early life in Germany.

She was the wife of 60 years to her husband, William L. Chase. They were married at the Lakenheath Chapel on the Air Force base in England in 1952.

She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Blue Ridge Summit, since 1988. Before that she was a member at the Catholic Church in Fort Ritchie.

Eva was a woman who loved her family fiercely. A great woman who put others first yet always believed in herself and the abilities of her children and grandchildren. She always had a smile, no matter how sick she was.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Anthony D. Chase and his wife, Helen, of  Frederick, Md., Stephany L. Chase of Waynesboro, William B. Chase of Cascade, and Christopher J. Chase and his wife, Holly, of Mont Alto, Pa.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Dorothea Schitzler of Germany.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Bergman and Waltrude Martin.

A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in St. Rita’s Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Robert Malagesi. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Cascade.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home.
