1. War and the fort

Picketing the Potomac — Retreat from Antietam is an event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Event 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6; 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. Fort Frederick State Park, 11100 Fort Frederick Road, Big Pool. Re-enactors will portray soldiers and civilians from the Civil War. Highlights both days include children's drill, 11:30 a.m.; presentation on Fort Frederick during the Civil War, noon; military tactical drills, 1 p.m.; 12th Illnois presentation, 2 p.m. $3 per vehicle for Maryland residents; $5 per vehicle for non-residents. 2. A day of 'Glory'

"Glory" (R) will be shown at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, City Park, Hagerstown. The film tells the story of the 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, an all-black unit comprising Northern freemen and escap ed slaves. Free. Call 301-739-5727.

3. Reflection of prose

"The Cellist of Sarajevo' in Words and Music" will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagers-town's meeting hall, 13245 Cearfoss Pike Hagerstown. The program will include readings from "The Cellist of Sarajevo." Cellist Jane Peatling and Marlin Barnes on the marimba will play Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor. Free. Go to www.uuhagerstownmd.org.


4. Time to dance

Ann Fallon will call a selection of contra dances to the music of The Contra Rebels from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Shepherdstown War Memorial Building, corner of German and King streets, Shepherdstown, W.Va. 5. Classical guitar
