Worship service has international flair

Covenant Presbyterian Church will hold an international worship service Sunday. 

The worship service will include scripture, the Lord’s Prayer and hymns in different languages.

Flags from Cameroon, Togo, Philippines, Guatemala and Cuba will be in the windows. The flags represent those in the congregation who were born in those countries and are now living in the Hagerstown area, as well as countries where the church has formed mission partnerships. 

Communion will be served with breads from around the world.  The church will collect a special peacemaking offering to support anti-bullying and anti-violence global and local initiatives.

The community is invited. 

The church is at 11833 Greenhill Drive off Jefferson Boulevard between Eastern Boulevard and Robinwood Drive.

Class of 1977

The Smithsburg High Class of 1977 will hold its 35-year reunion Saturday at  Cascade American Legion. Dinner will be at 6 p.m., followed by a dance.

Gun bonanza

A gun bonanza will be held at Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co., 22 N. Main St. in Smithsburg, Saturday, Oct. 13.      

Door open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Participants must be 18 to attend. Tickets cost $30 per couple. You must be present to win the loser’s drawing. 

The menu includes pit beef, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, chili, coleslaw, homemade desserts, soda, water and beer.

Lions to hold raffle

The Chewsville Lions Club will hold a raffle for a portable generator, which is a Centurion by Generac (3250 running watts, 3750 starting watts).

Tickets cost $5 each. The drawing will be Dec. 18 at the regular club meeting. The winner need not be present to win.

Hammond reunion

The William Kennedy Hammond family reunion will be Saturday at noon at Doub’s Woods Park, South Pavilion, (enter off Sharpsburg Pike) rain or shine.

Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share. Chicken and hot dogs will be provided. Bring your own drinks and place settings.
