Washington High School students hurt in bus crash

October 02, 2012

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Six Washington High School students were taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after the bus in which they were riding was struck by another vehicle, according to Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Susan Wall.

Wall said she was told the students were taken to the hospital to be examined as a precaution after being examined at the scene of the crash on Hostler Road and W.Va. 9. Wall said she was told that some of the students suffered bumps and bruises in the crash.

The bus driver is fine, Wall said.

Wall said water on the road was apparently a contributing factor in the crash, which is being investigated by the West Virginia State Police. Wall said she was told the vehicle that struck the bus crossed the center line of the road.

Additional information was unavailable from the state police Tuesday afternoon.

A Jefferson County dispatcher said the accident was reported at 3:06 p.m. and W.Va. 9 was closed for about two hours.

The dispatcher said traffic was moving slowly as of 5:30 p.m.
