Trucker whose tractor-trailer crashed on I-68 near Hancock has died

October 01, 2012

A tractor-trailer driver has died from injuries he sustained when the rig plunged 100 yards down an embankment last week near Hancock.

Victor Doros, 26, of Wheeling, Ill., died Friday at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Medical Center in Baltimore, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident happened the morning of Sept. 24 as Doros was driving the tractor-trailer east on Interstate 68.

Hancock Fire Chief Danny Shirley said the tractor-trailer went off the south shoulder of the roadway and rolled down the embankment, splintering a tree on the way down.

He said firefighters had a difficult time getting to the crash because the tractor-trailer came to rest in a wooded area with briars and fallen trees.

Doros was driven by ambulance to a landing zone west of the crash site, then flown to Baltimore by a Maryland State Police helicopter.
