Marvin E. Mellott, 86, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born July 22, 1926, in Sharpsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Glenville and Ida Mae Knode Mellott.

He was a 1944 graduate of Williamsport High School and a graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, and retired in 1989 from General Motors Corp. in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Marvin was a member of Downsville Christian Church, Western Maryland Sportsman's Club and IORM Conococheague Tribe 84, both in Williamsport, and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown, and was an associate at Cochrans Auction Complex in Boonsboro, Md.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, S. Ruth Plummer Mellott; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Devona Forsythe.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
