1. Two exhibits at once

Two exhibits, "Spirits Unleashed" and "Maryland Memories," open Friday, Oct. 5, Washington County Arts Council, 14 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. Exhibits by Spectrum Seven and Donna Godlove. Reception, 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Exhibit continues through Tuesday, Oct. 30. Call 301-791-3132.


2. Dance the night away

Dancing with the Community Star will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Holiday Inn of Martinsburg, 301 Foxcroft Ave., Martinsburg, W.Va. A competition  to raise funds for the Berkeley County Scholarship Organization. $30 per person; $50 per couple, includes hors d'oeuvres and dancing after the show. Also silent auction and cash bar. 3. A woman's passion

Author William Souder will present "On a Farther Shore: The Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson," founder of the environmental movement, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at National Conservation Training Center, Shepherd Grade Road, Shepherdstown, W.Va. 4. Just move

Auditions for "Just Dance" for ages 13 to 18 either solo or in groups of up to five members will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Valley Mall, center court, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Halfway. 5. Tales of simpler times
