George Franklin "Pete" Slifer Jr., 76, of Falling Waters, W.Va., passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Sept. 27, 1936, in Middletown, Md., he was the son of the late George Franklin Slifer Sr. and Anna Virginia Rider Slifer.

He attended Middletown High School, Middletown.

He was employed as a carpenter for the National Park Service in Sharpsburg, Md., for the past 20 years. He previously worked in construction with his brother, Delano, for many years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He was a member of IORM Tribe 84, Williamsport, and AMVETS Post 38, Falling Waters, where he served as a past commander.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his four-wheeler, and trips with many friends at the hunting cabin.

Survivors include son, Todd M. Slifer of Taneytown, Md.; son, Troy J. Slifer of Mount Airy, Md.; brother, Delano Slifer and his wife, Linda, of Falling Waters; brother, Thomas B. Slifer of Knoxville, Md.; special friend with whom he hunted for 40 years, George Carter of Rockville, Md.; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles K. Slifer.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. Monday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at the funeral home Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dick Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Falling Waters. Military graveside services will be provided by AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
