Schultz wins Mid-Atlantic PGA Match Play

STAFFORD, Va. — Dirk Schultz, the head professional at Beaver Creek Country Club, captured the Mid-Atlantic PGA Match Play championship on Tuesday.

Schultz, who defeated reigning player of the year David Hutsell in the semifinals on Monday, downed Bud Lintelman, of PGA of Westpark Golf Club, 4 and 3 in the finals played on the Cascades Course at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va.

After taking a 1-up lead after nine holes, Schultz won holes 11 and 12 and then finished the match on 16.


Heritage 3, Grace Academy 0

Heritage Academy won its 47th straight best-of-5 match with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of Grace Academy in the MDCC.

The Eagles improved to 10-0 overall and in the MDCC this season. Their streak dates to the start of the 2010 season.

Kara Stamper had 27 kills, seven digs and three aces to lead Heritage. Chloe Prejean had 21 assists and 10 digs, Christi Jackson had 11 kills, Nicole Gaylor had 15 digs, Bethany Powell had 11 digs and Hannah Gaylor added 10 digs.

Valerie Cole had 12 assists, six digs and four aces for Grace (4-6, 4-6). Allie Cox had five kills and eight digs, Heather Groves had five kills and Caitlin Cox added seven digs and four kills.

Faith Christian 3, Broadfording 1

Michelle Brooks had six aces and 14 digs for Faith Christian in a 16-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 victory over Broadfording in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.

Jasmin Earl added 11 digs for Faith (1-9, 1-9).

Sarah Couch had eight kills and Kierra White added 11 assists for the Lions (0-8, 0-8).

CVCS 3, New Life 2

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Marin Kearns had 16 kills and seven aces, and Anna Bunting added 15 kills and five aces as Cumberland Valley Christian pulled out a 25-23, 23-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-10 victory over New Life Christian in the MDCC.

Laiton Suders had nine kills, six aces and 11 digs for CVCS (9-1, 9-1). Karli Fogal had 37 assists.

Shalom 3, Fannett-Metal 2

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. — Tori Yoder had 12 kills and 15 digs for Shalom Christian in Monday night’s 21-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-14, 15-13 victory over Fannett-Metal.

Brooke Poe had 11 digs and four aces, and Kristen Blank added nine assists and five aces for the Flames (6-4). Lexy Poe had 11 digs and Steph Bricker added 10 digs.


Madeira 2, Mercersburg 1

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Liz Stern scored the only goal for Mercersburg Academy in a Mid-Atlantic Prep league loss to Madeira in overtime.

Syd Godbey made 11 saves for the Blue Storm.


Williamsport 3, Boonsboro 1

WILLIAMSPORT — Colton Myers, Tiago DeSouza and Morgan Hager-Perry each scored a goal for Williamsport in an MVAL Antietam win over Boonsboro.

Owen Marx, Theo Berg and Cole Smith each had an assist and Corey Ellis made six saves for the Wildcats (5-2, 3-1).

Dalton Funk scored for the Warriors (4-4, 1-2) on an assist from Rusty Kopp. Greg Fiola made four saves.

Oakdale 11, Smithsburg 0

SMITHSBURG — Adam Dwyer made eight saves and Zach Schaeffer added five saves for Smithsburg (1-5) in a loss to Oakdale.

JV: Oakdale, 7-0.

Grace Academy 2, Heritage 2

Bryce Nigh had a goal and an assist for Heritage Academy in a tie with Grace Academy in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.

Nate Gaylor scored and Luis Orjuela had an assist for Heritage (5-4-2, 5-4-2).

Josiah House and Nathan Brazil scored for Grace (1-7-2, 1-6-2). P.J. Patalinghug and Tony Hahn each had an assist.

Broadfording 3, Faith Christian 2

Andrew Grimm had two goals and an assist to lead Broadfording past Faith Christian in MDCC action.

Steven Glaspell scored a goal and Trevor Snodderly added an assist for the Lions (2-7, 2-7). Ben Cradduck made six saves.

William Millner scored for Faith (5-6, 5-6). Its other goal came on an own goal off a corner kick. 


St. John’s Catholic 6, Mercersburg Academy 3

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Paige Wolny scored two goals on penalty kicks for Mercersburg Academy, but the Blue Storm suffered their first loss of the season to St. John’s Catholic Prep (6-0) in the Independent-Parochial School League.

Alyson Kinney added a goal off an assist from Katie Miller for Mercersburg (5-1).

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Kat Lippincott scored the lone goal for the Trojans in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth loss.
