Mail Call - Sept. 26

September 25, 2012

“I wish the parents in Franklin County would stop whining about the dress code for their children. Had they been doing their job all along, it wouldn’t be necessary for the schools to tell their children how to dress.”
— Chambersburg, Pa.

“To repeal Obamacare, to save Medicare and Social Security, vote Republican. Our country is running out of money. The few workers we have left cannot seed the programs. A financial disaster is awaiting all of us if we continue in this same old way.”
— Boonsboro

“To the Hagerstown caller wanting to know if we wanted to blame President Obama for the Kennedy assassination: We couldn’t do that. He’s already blamed it on George Bush, as he has blamed all the other problems created by his administration. Vote Mitt Romney.”
— Hagerstown

“I attended the stadium tour the other evening, and it was interesting and informative, of course. There were a couple of behind-the-scenes type comments made from people, pro and con, but the one that got me was, I no sooner got in there and started to sign my name and where I was from, of course, and somebody on a cell phone was making calls about the tea partiers. I’m not a member of the tea party, and I am against all that money for a new stadium, but this person, whoever he was talking with, was making derogatory statements about the tea partiers, and people like that we don’t need to hear from.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling in about the guy who made the comment in Mail Call this morning about Mitt Romney messing up Medicare. Well, he must be asleep, because he got that all fouled up. It’s President Obama that who’s got Medicare messed up. He already cut it $500 billion. He’s going to cut it another $720 billion.”
— South Pointe

“I have two things: One, Jesus said, ‘Suffer the little children to come unto me.’ He didn’t say suffer the whiners about the little children. And to the (person) who can breathe well enough with her asthma to get down to the mailbox: How about helping those folks who can’t walk, and have other kinds of disabilities, to get her original birth certificate, original Social Security card, and two other proofs of payment.”
— Hagerstown

“You know, this is Sept. 20, I’m reading The Herald-Mail, and I put an article in the Mail Call, it’s a good article, but I named the wrong school. It wasn’t the Valley Forge, it was the Old Forge Elementary School, and I want to apologize, and I just think they were wonderful, and my wife and I go every year, we really enjoy it, ... and they’re building beautiful schools for children to go to, and I hope they keep it up. God bless the teachers.”
— Hagerstown

“I’ve been looking at all the polls for the presidential race. It’s going to be a close race, all but one state, Massachusetts. The president’s up 28 points. Wasn’t Mitt Romney the governor of that state? Shouldn’t he be winning that state? I’ve come to the conclusion people from Massachusetts know him best. They know how he is, so that’s why ... If you can’t win your own state, I’d say you’re on the down side of losing.”
— Hagerstown

“Joe Lane has an article in the paper this morning, the 21st of September. Good article, Joe, on the commissioners, but let’s not lump them all together. There’s only one man on that commissioner staff that continuously votes against these high money things that this county’s trying to pass through.”
— Washington County

“It looks like we can forget about stopping those loathsome robocalls we all seem to get, because according to an article I just read, the FCC claims they’re already doing an ‘effective job’ of stopping them. No joke, ‘absolutely working,’ they say, even though complaints have tripled in less than two years, so it’s obviously a waste of time filing a complaint. I don’t know what’s worse, the calls or the FCC’s out-of-touch bureaucratic incompetence. They say the best thing to do is just hang up. Sure, I’ve done this repeatedly and it doesn’t work. Thanks for nothing, government bureaucrats.”
— Frederick, Md.

“Somebody ought to tell John McCain he lost the election, and quit getting out there, getting on TV talk shows all the time and wanting to start other wars over in Iran or Syria, and then also he wants this investigation for that, this investigation for that. Tell him to go back home and live in one of the eight or nine homes he’s got.”
— Hagerstown

“Sixteen-trillion-dollar national debt, unemployment over 8 percent for the last 43 months, people on food stamps has almost doubled to ... under President Obama’s administration. We are rapidly coming a nanny state, and the forefathers of this country didn’t design America to be a nanny state.”
— Hagerstown

“Why is it we can build the Chesapeake Bay, the Twin Towers, and skyscrapers, but our engineers can’t build or fix the stadium plot and build a stadium there?”
— Hagerstown

“Thank God for the new moped/scooter law that goes in effect in October. This law is way, way overdue. It’s not about insurance companies making money, it’s about people being responsible for their actions.”
— Hagerstown

“I want to thank the Antrim school board for removing the Lord’s Prayer from their meetings. Radical Christians believing their views are greater than the law is wrong. Separation of church and state is absolute. One nation, with liberty and justice for all.”
— Hagerstown
