Washington County to spend $130,000 to buy Security Road property

September 25, 2012

The Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously agreed Tuesday to spend $130,000 to buy 1051 Security Road in Hagerstown.

Joe Kuhna, the county’s real property administrator, said the acquisition is part of a project to widen Eastern Boulevard.

State property records show that the property, owned by Felipe Rodriguez, is about one-third of an acre and has a 780-square-foot home.

The improvement work will damage the existing septic system, making the home inhabitable, so the county had to buy the entire property, Kuhna said.

The road widening and realignment project will require the partial or total acquisition of several properties, according to a memo Kuhna shared with the commissioners.
