St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown, will host a Red Cross blood drive Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m.

Soup and light refreshments will be provided.

Fall bargain sale

The Women’s Club will hold its annual fall bargain sale Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Gently used clothing, household merchandise, shoes and jewelry will be available for purchase. 

The club provides low-cost housing for women in the community and a place for members to enjoy activities.

Winter Street names Citizens of the Month

The following students in prekindergarten through grade five have been chosen by their teachers as Classroom Citizens of the Month for September at Winter Street Elementary:


Jabari Gray, James Hudson, Mary Kay Bunch, Antonio Balls, Camone Pompell, Bre Himes, Jayden Rogers, Paris Randall, Luka Kifer, Ethan Harden, Skyler Chaney, Jacob Patterson and Melanie Elliott. 

The students are chosen based on their attitude toward learning, respect, responsibility, attendance, homework completion and exhibiting good Character Counts! traits.

Winter Street students enjoy back-to-school bash

On Thursday, Sept. 13, Winter Street Elementary held its annual back-to-school bash to reward students for their positive behavior through the PBIS program (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports). 

Students in prekindergarten through grade five were invited to attend the bash, which was held after school on the Winter Street Elementary playground.   

Students participated in games and activities while dance music was provided by DJ Slam-N-Sturtz and DJ Jazzy O,

The event was a success with many students and their parents attending.

Hammond family reunion set for Oct. 6

The William Kennedy Hammond family reunion will be held at Doub’s Woods Park, South Pavilion, (enter off Sharpsburg Pike), on Saturday, Oct. 6, at noon, rain or shine.

Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share. Chicken and hot dogs will be provided. Bring your own drinks and place settings.
