Mail Call - Sept. 25

September 24, 2012

“I live not in the city limits but in Halfway, and I would like to know how I can sign the petition to not build the stadium. I think the mayor and the city council are not paying attention to what the residents of the city and Washington County want, and I would very much like to know how I can get my name on that petition.”
— Halfway

“On the Republican convention, Clint Eastwood: Excellent. At the Democratic convention, Steny Hoyer, Barbara Mikulski, Gov. O’Malley. If they could have only gotten Kermit the Frog or Miss Piggy, the strings wouldn’t have showed so much.”
— Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

“So in 2011, somebody bought land for $525,000. Apparently, the economy has exploded, because now our geniuses in the county want to pay $1.5 million for the same scrub land, for a school — beside the busiest Walmart on the East Coast, beside one of the busiest shopping centers in the county ... It’s time to get out of this county, because they’re killing it.”
— Hagerstown

“I am 72 years old, and I am for the stadium. The senior citizens who are not for the stadium, let it go. You’re not going to be here that much longer. Give the younger generation something to take their family to and enjoy. And if Penny Nigh is for the stadium, I’m for her. She has my vote.”
— Hagerstown

“Thank you to the waitress who found my purse where I accidentally left it, and recognized me the next day when I returned, and ... kept it in a safe place until I came back. Thank you a thousand times.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling about an article on Sept. 14 by Kathleen Parker on MSNBC. What she says is all true. All the networks except for Fox are so far behind President Obama that it’s not funny. They will hammer anything at all, any Republican, and especially Mitt Romney, to beat him. So I hope the people, when they vote, and I want them to vote, go to and do some studying ... something about a movie, Obama, whatever it was. I will not go see it, because it’s probably against him. I’d rather read and make my own judgment. I hope the people do the same.”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“I’d like to see the city of Hagerstown elect Mr. Aleshire, and Penny Nigh, I’d like to see her get elected. They’re the only ones I can remember who tried to save the city money. Instead of tearing down buildings and rebuilding them in Hagerstown. I know the city’s got to be broke. Either that, they borrowed so much money, we’ll never get out of debt.”
— Hagerstown

“Kathleen Parker, I always like her columns, but she really takes a lot of gall with this one. Of course, MSNBC is pro-Democrats and President Obama. They need something to counteract Fox Noise Channels. You’re not going to tell me they’re fair and balanced, are you, Kathleen? Please don’t insult my intelligence. Fox Noise Channel hasn’t said one good thing about the president, except that he’s not born here or he’s ... So yes, MSNBC is for the president, just like Fox is for every Republican buffoon out there.”
— Hagerstown

“Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stood before the caskets of four murdered American heroes, their family, and the American people, and lied, saying their murder was due to an anti-Muslim movie, when it was an act of terrorism. President Obama and his administration is a disgrace to the American people. All true Americans should vote for Gov. Romney.”
— Gapland

“In the ongoing debate about the new stadium in downtown Hagerstown, there is one factor that no one has mentioned. The ‘chosen’ site for the new stadium was formerly a railroad yard, for at least 60 years. When the construction crews start digging, they are going to run into all kinds of hazardous substances that were left behind. Removing these hazardous substances will drive the cost sky-high. This has already happened in Pennsylvania and Virginia.”
— Hagerstown
