MEN’S SOCCER

HCC 3, Lord Fairfax 0

Bobby Matusek scored twice and Bradley Coblentz added a goal Sunday as Hagerstown Community College beat Lord Fairfax.

Mamadou Jallow had two assists for the Hawks (5-4, 3-2). Three goalkeepers combined on the shutout, with Chucky Kipe making five saves, Brandon Wingfield three and Fredy Velasquez one.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — C.J. Elwood had a goal and an assist, and Levi Bucher made five saves for the shutout as the Blazers blanked the Eagles on Saturday.

Corey McClure, Nick Brandt and Logan Speak also scored for Clear Spring (5-1). Bradly Mills had two assists and Kevin Carbajal and Jacob Ernst added an assist each.

JV: Hedgesville, 1-0.



PREP VOLLEYBALL

MSD Tournament

FREDERICK, Md. — Heritage Academy defended its championship at the Maryland School for the Deaf Tournament on Saturday.

Heritage played seven pool-play matches but earned the second seed after a loss to MSD.

In the quarterfinals, Heritage defeated James River, 25-11, 25-10. The Eagles defeated New Life 25-6, 25-21 in the semifinals before avenging its loss to MSD with a 25-23, 25-16 victory in the final.

In the final, Kara Stamper had 14 kills, seven digs and three blocks, Chloe Prejean had 12 assists and four digs, Hannah Gaylor had five digs, Christi Jackson had five kills and Nicole Gaylor added 10 digs for the Eagles.

Stamper earned MVP honors, while Prejean was named to the All-Tournament team.
