Mayor talks about stadium to Rotary

Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II recently spoke to the Rotary Club of Long Meadows on the subject of the multiuse outdoor sports and events center proposed for downtown Hagerstown.

Bruchey talked about the factors that make Summit Avenue and Baltimore Street a preferred location for the stadium project.

He stressed that the facility is about much more than just a stadium and would serve the community in a variety of ways through the events that might be hosted at such a venue.

Haven Lutheran Church back on regular hours

It’s back to fall activities at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.

The church’s worship time is now each Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with holy communion.

The worship service is a blended service, which includes old-time favorites and contemporary liturgy.

Sunday church school returns each Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon. Classes are available for all ages.

The church also has many musical opportunities and choirs, including handbells and chimes.

Fall bargain sale set for this weekend

The Women’s Club, at 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown, will hold its annual fall bargain sale Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Gently used clothing, household merchandise, shoes and jewelry will be available for purchase.

The club provides low-cost housing for women in the community and a place for members to enjoy activities.
This is the 92nd year the Women’s Club has been a part of the Hagerstown community.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077 recorded losses of 30 1/2 pounds for the week. 

The best TOPS losers were Charlie House and Joanne S. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Kathy Renner and Audrey Smith.

The no-no snack for this week is chips.

Dorothy Martin presented the program on “Three Ways to Lose Weight.”

Team challenges will begin the first week of October.

The chapter meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown. 

Weigh-in is from 7 to 9:15 a.m. and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The Leathernecks Nation Motorcycle Club is seeking the names of soldiers who are deployed to Afghanistan or other overseas countries. 

The club would like to make sure the soldiers know they are not forgotten by sending them cards and packages.
