Marine Corps Pfc. Thomas M. Nguyen, son of Helen Houng Pham and Tuan Nhat Ho, both of Frederick, Md., earned the title of U.S. Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Nguyen is a 2011 graduate of Clarksburg High School in Germantown, Md.


Marine Corps Pvt. William C. Smith, son of Rachel R. and stepson of Darrin R. Slick of Waynesboro, Pa., and brother of Joanna R. Wishard of Harrisburg, Pa., earned the title of U.S. Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Smith is a 2010 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.


Marine Corps Pvt. William J. Ward, son of Anita C. and Timothy W. Ward of Myersville, Md., earned the title of U.S. Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Marine Corps Pvt. Tristyn A. Stemple, a 2007 graduate of Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., earned the title of U.S. Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.


Navy Seaman Chris A. Burroughs, son of Donna L. Aicantara of Midland, Va., and Roger A. Burroughs of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Burroughs is the brother of Ryan A. Burroughs, also of Midland. He is a 2008 graduate of Liberty High School in Bealeton, Va.


Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Matthew T. DiPlacido, son of Patricia DiPlacido of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and grandson of Audrey Spencer of Hagerstown, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

DiPlacido is a 2005 graduate of Musselman High School in Inwood, W.Va.
