1. Hub City celebrates 250th anniversary

Hagerstown's 250th anniversary will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, downtown Hagerstown. Live music, dance and other entertainment on two stages, Faire Off the Square near Elizabeth Hager Center, hayrides to City Park and Rose Hill Cemetery, plus activities in four themes — Tomorrow, History, Today and Transportation. Event will be in the Public Square and the 100 blocks of North and South Potomac streets and East and West Washington streets in downtown Hagerstown. Free. Call 301-739-8577, ext. 116.

2. Heritage festival

Fall Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival will be  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Sept. 30. Sam Michaels Park,off U.S. 340 between Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Charles Town, W.Va. iMusic will be provided by Patent Pending, The Hillbilly Gypsies, The Stevens Family Bluegrass Band, and Nothin' Fancy. Juried artists and craftspersons will demonstrate their creations. Children's activities include craft making, face painting, inflatables and climbing wall. $7; $4, ages 6 to 17. 3. 'Around the World'

4. The secret

"Walt Whitman's Secret" continues at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29; 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. Full Circle Theater Company, 113 S. Princess St., Shepherdstown, W.Va. 5. Finding Civil War roots
