Police said a man was stabbed in the back Thursday night near Nadia Convenience Store on West Franklin Street, according to a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman.

A concerned citizen called authorities after seeing a man near the store who was bleeding, said Sgt. John Lehman of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Officers responded to the area at 7:28 p.m. and found a man with a stab wound to the back, Lehman said.

It also appeared that the man had a defensive wound to one of his hands, Lehman said.

It was unclear what led to the stabbing, and an investigator was at Meritus Medical Center Thursday night waiting to speak to the man, Lehman said.

The man’s wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, Lehman said.
