Treasurers for two organizations indicted in Jefferson County

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Indictments on forgery and embezzlement charges were handed up this week by a Jefferson County grand jury against former treasurers — one for a Shepherd University sorority, the other for a local volunteer fire department.

Susan Roxanne Carter, 46, of 196 Mountainside Road, Harpers Ferry, W.Va., is charged with 114 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, 18 counts of forgery and one count of embezzlement while she was the treasurer for the Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. The incidents occurred between May 2008 and April 2010, according to court records.

She is accused spending more than $4,200 at a local Wal-Mart store, court records said.

The defendant in the other case, Jennifer Erin Basal (also spelled Basel in court documents), 32, of 707 Elizabeth Court, Aberdeen, Md., was indicted on 27 counts of forgery, 26 counts of uttering and 55 counts of embezzlement while she was the treasure for the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority at Shepherd University in 2011. She is accused of bilking sorority members out of more than $7,500, according to court records.

The two women were among more than 40 defendants  indicted by the grand jury during its September term.

Others indicted were:

Randy Bailey, no age or address available, two counts of grand larceny.

Brandon Christopher, no age or address available, one count each of burglary, felony destruction of property, domestic assault and brandishing a firearm.

Merle Stanley Johnson, 65, of 1125 Tuscawilla Hills, Charles Town, one count each of DUI causing death, negligent homicide, failure to maintain control and failure to drive on the right side of the road.

Amanda Kaye Quevedo, 43, of 396 Close Dr., Martinsburg, W.Va., one count each of fleeing an officer in a vehicle with reckless indifference and receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle.

James Michael Dodson 25, of 5945 Summit Point Road, Charles Town, one count each of burglary and conspiracy.

Jeremy Allen Tasker, 21, of 1071 Harry Shirley Road, Kearneysville, W.Va., one count each of burglary and conspiracy.

Jessica Lavelle Hamm, 23, of 1071 Harry Shirley Road, Kearneysville, one count each of burglary and conspiracy.

Ashlee Dawn Gray, 28, of 5 Cedar Drive, Kearneysville, one count each of burglary and conspiracy.

Nancy Lee Dougherty, no age or address available, one count each of entering without breaking and conspiracy.

Candy Waldron, no age or address available, one count each of entering without breaking and conspiracy.

Dustin Glen Johnson, 21, of 294 Connector Road, Martinsburg, one count each of entering without breaking, conspiracy and grand larceny.

Zachary Allen Rife, 20, of 88 Howell Road, Harpers Ferry, one count each of burglary and transferring stolen property.

Stephanie Kay Buffaloboy, 32, of P.O. Box 571, Ranson, W.Va., one count of third offense shoplifting.

Terry Lee Chamblin, 40, of P.O. Box 536, Ranson, two counts of child neglect creating substantial risk of serious bodily injury, one count each of possession with intent to deliver a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a schedule I controlled substance.

Trammell Eugene Alexander, 41, of 4352 Summit Point Road, Summit Point, W.Va., one count each of attempted murder and malicious wounding.

Joseph Lee Hardy, 28, of 78 First St., Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., one count each of malicious wounding, grand larceny and transferring stolen property.

Kenneth Ray McDonald Sr., 30, of P.O. Box 94, Shenandoah Junction, one count of malicious wounding.

Therese Denise Epps, 30, of 838 N. Fulton Ave., Baltimore, Md., four counts each of forgery, uttering and counterfeiting.

Matthew Duane Jenkins, no age or address available, three counts each of unauthorized use of an access device (credit card) and conspiracy.

Joanna Renee Jenkins, no age or address available, three counts each of unauthorized use of an access device (credit card) and conspiracy.

Mark Todd Engle, 33, of 3221 Middleway Pike, Bunker Hill, W.Va., three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, four counts of conspiracy and one count of delivery of a controlled substance.

Cory Atwood Johnson, 25, of 600 Eagle Ave., Charles Town, one count of possession with the intent to deliver a schedule I controlled substance.

Charles Woodrow Longerbeam, 40, of 860 W. Washington St., Charles Town, one count each of possession with intent to deliver a schedule IV controlled substance, delivery of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a schedule I controlled substance and possession of a schedule III controlled substance.

James Robert Walsh III, 40, of 52 Crab Apple Lane, Ranson, one count of grand larceny and four counts of breaking and entering.

Trent Eugene Davidson, 23, of 182 Ranson Estates Circle, Ranson, one count of delivery of a schedule II controlled substance.

Aimee Morganne Gorham, 21, of 397 Apple Cross Road, Harpers Ferry, two counts each of forgery and uttering and one count each of entering without breaking and grand larceny.
