Mail Call - Sept. 20

September 19, 2012

“If the county commissioners approve the contract to buy a piece of land for three times what it was paid for a year ago, each and every one of them should be booted out of office, and on their way out, they should send a letter of apology to every single taxpayer in Hagerstown and the state of Maryland.”
— Fountainhead area, Hagerstown

“I’m calling to inform the voters, please check the record of everybody. Do not listen to the news, do not listen to the press. Go back in history on your computer and see what they did before they started for office. And then vote which one you think would be best. I say vote for Mitt Romney. Everybody else can pick who they want, but please vote.”
— Marlowe, W.Va.

“President Obama would like to have four more years. How could he even consider four more years, with the high unemployment, the economy, Solyndra, the big bailouts? All I can say is he shouldn’t have even been given four years, let alone ask for four more years. Please remember this in voting for him in November.”
— Boonsboro

“Thanks, Hagerstown caller, for informing us ignorant Republicans that not every American is healthy, white and not poor. As a lifelong asthmatic with asthmatic family members, I welcome your extreme partisanship, laughably ignorant insults and name-calling because this proves you have no other way and nothing else to use to debate the issues. Burdensome, a struggle? Caller, it’s a struggle when you have to stop and rest halfway when walking to the mailbox. But that hasn’t stopped us and millions of others from registering to vote, and getting photo IDs.”
— Frederick, Md.

“The longer I live, the more I understand ‘Judge not.’ I work several minimum-wage jobs, six days a week. Do I want my new 3-day-old car almost ruined with wet grass? No, I will work hard for that, five years, at $28,000. Yes, children are dying — why I give a lot to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, why I give so people without food can eat, why I give to help dig water wells in other countries so people have water to drink. So yes, I’m well aware of all the suffering; why I care and why I help.”
— Hagerstown

“I have a suggestion. We have a nice city and we’ve now gotten, we call it city center, but the city of Hagerstown, what would really be great is if we have a total, citywide clean-out day where everybody cleans up their property because I don’t know what’s happened, but this whole city is filthy, with trash and trash and more trash, that people just seem to just throw their trash out, wherever, whenever. And it’s just like everything’s let go and nobody’s taking any pride. How about a city pride cleanup day for Hagerstown?”
— Hagerstown

“To the grandmother and great-grandmother who wanted to thank all of us who voted for President Obama: I want to say you’re welcome, and plan on voting for him again. If not, Mitt Romney plans on messing up your Medicare and your Social Security, so you won’t even have a house for them to move back into. By the way, you want to blame Obama for the Kennedy assassination also?”
— Hagerstown

“You know, I was well-impressed with the Valley Forge Elementary School grandparents day, which we went to, me and my wife, and I was amazed at how well the school was kept neat and clean, and the teachers were outstanding, the principal was outstanding, and also we had a ... little girl was in the classroom we were in, and here was another girl helping her out. I complimented her for it, for helping her. But they all took care of her like they were the best of friends, and I really appreciate it. And my grandson’s teacher was outstanding. I really enjoyed the day, spending time there.”
