Russell Brown Bankard, 87, of Williamsport, Md., and formerly of Westminster, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Homewood Retirement Community in Williamsport.

Born Aug. 12, 1925, near Westminster, he was the son of the late Ulman A. "Ollie" and Annie Brown Bankard. He was the husband of the late Eva Stitley Hood Bankard, who died Jan. 19, 2002.

He was a self-employed farmer. He also had been a shipping foreman for Westminster Shoe, and worked in the parts department at Farmer Supply Co.

He was a 1942 graduate of Westminster High School.

He was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and St. Benjamin's (Kriders) Lutheran Church, and enjoyed chair caning, refinishing furniture, gardening and walking his dog.

He is survived by his stepson and wife, Edward F. and Joanne Hood of Hagerstown, Md.; and stepgrandchildren and spouses, Tanya and Travis Starr of Williamsport, Edward Hood II of Maine, and Tricia and Warren Strite of Clear Spring, Md.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. The Rev. David Schafer of St. Benjamin's (Kriders) Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in Kriders Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
