Perry honored for Big Slackwater Restoration efforts

Committee members also honored for work on C&O Canal project

WILLIAMSPORT — Tom Perry has been awarded the National Honor Roll Award from the Izaak Walton League of America for his work on the Big Slackwater Restoration Project along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath.

The award is designed to recognize nonmembers (groups or individuals) who have achieved outstanding accomplishments involving conservation, public education, or publicity efforts in keeping with the League’s goals.

The award was presented by Del. John Overington; Charles Wiles, past IWLA national president; Gary Meade, IWLA national executive board; Pat Crouse, IWLA membership coordinator; and Dawn Merritt, IWLA national communications director.

Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to the Big Slackwater Restoration Committee, which included Chairman Perry, John Ziegler, Charlotte Loveless, Ken and Pat Heck, Williamsport Mayor James McCleaf and Carl Pederson.

That award was presented by Marie Cyphert, Izaak Walton League of America West Virginia state president.

Special thanks goes to those who prepared and served the meal at the presentation, including Craig Deibert, Mike Masters, Chris Smallwood and Linda Dawson.
