FBLA program recruiting members

The Clear Spring High School Future Business Leaders of America organization will recruit members this fall to participate in college and career ready opportunities in and out of school. 

Membership costs $10. The group is also looking for professional division members with adults in the community.

The cost is $23, and forms are available at www.fbla-pbl.org. The Chapter number is 2199.

The first fundraiser will be at Hempen Hill restaurant Tuesday.

Participants need a form from the main office at the high school to present when ordering a meal at the restaurant so the FBLA will get credit for the order.

Chicken barbecue to be held Saturday

Blairs Valley Church will hold its annual chicken barbecue Saturday from 4 p.m. until sold out.

The barbecue will be in the community building at 13505 Blairs Valley Road in Clear Spring.

The menu includes a half chicken, baked potato, green beans, applesauce, roll, tea, coffee and dessert. 

The meal costs $9. 

Garden Club to kick off season

The Clear Spring Garden Club will kick off its new program year Thursday at 7 p.m. with “Shasta Daisies, Shoes and the Sisterhood!”

The high-energy presentation by professional speaker Julie Gaver will help focus on what is important in life as Gaver shares the role humor plays in helping cope with the many stresses of life and work.

The author of the book series “Must Love Shoes,” Gaver is a master storyteller and knows that a good belly laugh a day in the garden, and the love and support of good friends are the perfect combination for a good speech and a good life.

The meeting will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring at 7 p.m. 

The community is invited. 

The club is sponsoring “Soles of Love in the Garden” and request that attendees bring along a pair of children’’s shoes (new, aged 3 to 18) for donation.

Rock the Hilltop planned for Oct. 6

Rock the Hilltop 2012 Funfest will be held at Hilltop Christian Fellowship Saturday, Oct. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. 

The event will include games, face painting, inflatable bounce with large slide, crafts and prizes. Smokey Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog and fire and ambulance units will be on hand. The community is invited to the free event.

Hilltop Christian Fellowship is at 12624 Trinity Church Drive in Clear Spring.
