Travelogue series

The Kiwanis Club’s travelogue series begins its 38th season with the “Lure of Alaska” on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. in the South Hagerstown High School auditorium.

The presenter will be Dale Johnson.

The series is a community-service project of the Kiwanis Club. Season tickets for the six-program series cost $30 for adults and $12 for students. Single-admission tickets are sold at the door on show nights.

The cost for adults is $10 and $5 for students.

Lions Club

Tuesday — The Hagerstown Lions Club will hold its monthly business and administrative beeting.

Club member Mickey Propst announced that on Thursday, a preschool vision screening will take place, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Winter Street Elementary to be followed at Salem Avenue Elementary for morning and after-lunch sessions. Any club member wishing to help should contact Propst.

Dog park meeting

There will be a public meeting concerning the proposed dog park at Hager Park at Frederick Street/Memorial Boulevard on Monday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 1 E. Franklin St., second floor, in Hagerstown.


The purpose of the meeting is to share information, gain support and commitment from potential users (to partner with the city so the park is used in a professional manner), and to obtain feedback on the design.

If the park is approved by the mayor and council, the city will ask the group of supporters to assist the city by using and operating the park in a positive way. This includes peers educating other dog owners on the proper use of the park, cleanup and working with city staff to continually improve the park.

Members of Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point are encouraged to attend the meeting.

South High Class of 1960

The South Hagerstown High School Class of 1960 will hold a class picnic Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Washington County Regional Park, pavilion 1, 20025 Mount Aetna Road, Hagerstown. The main dish and beverage will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish.

Child-care meeting set

All child-care providers are invited to attend a meeting and class Tuesday  at Paramount Baptist Church on Marsh Pike. Share new experiences and find out about upcoming events. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the class starts at 6:40 p.m.
