LouEllen "Ellen" Winship, 86, of Washington, D.C., currently residing at 7 Maple Ave., Boonsboro, Md., passed away peacefully, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village.

She was born Wednesday, June 23, 1926, in Washington, D.C.

She held several master's degrees, including degrees in biology, business and accounting. She was employed with the federal government, retiring after 40 years of service. She served on numerous community boards and coordinated many special events, including a fashion show in Korea during the '70s for international dignitaries, that portrayed the fashion of all the former first ladies of the United States. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed sewing. She was of the Protestant faith.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, LouEllen and James; a son, Richard, and a daughter, Joan. She is survived by one son, Marvin Douglas Winship of Florida and grandchildren. Ellen especially loved spending time with her very close friends and her special family, Curt, Pearl and Mariah Marshall, with whom she had a very endearing relationship. Ellen especially enjoyed attending Mariah's dance recitals throughout the country, playing dolls and helping with her schoolwork.

Graveside services will be Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Md., with the Rev. Delancy Catlett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
