Weinberg Center announces season

FREDERICK, Md. — The Weinberg Center for the Arts announces its 2012-2013 Season. The season kicks off with comedian Jim Breuer on Friday, Sept. 21, and ends with the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," Wednesday, June 26. The full schedule is available online at www.WeinbergCenter.org.

The Weinberg's Live! Series includes the rich sounds of musical group Acoustic Africa, the slapstick Cindy Williams starring in "Nunset Boulevard," guitarist Tom Rush, and rumba guitarist Jesse Cook. The Live! Series also presents the blues and Southern funk of Johnny Winter and special guests the Campbell Brothers, jazz vocalist Jane Monheit with special guest Mark O'Connor, Rave On!,a Buddy Holly tribute band, and bluegrass band The Seldom Scene.

Weinberg fan favorites returning include sax legend Maceo Parker, The Four B******' Babes in their newest musical revue, "Mid Life Vices," comedy troupe Second City with its timely production Second City for President, Grammy-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, Beatles tribute band, 1964: The Tribute, Kathy Mattea and pianist Jim Brickman.

Family Series features include theatrical circus show Squirm Burpee: A Vaudevillian Melodrama, Duquesne University's Tamburitzans, the multicultural song and dance group, the traveling theatrical production of "Around the World in 80 Days," and The New Shanghai Circus.

New in the line-up for the Weinberg Center for the Arts this year is the Frederick Speaker Series. The series includes Dr. Andrew Weil, leader and pioneer in the field of integrative medicine; Gen. Colin Powell, diplomatic leader in the world of politics; and award-winning host and co-executive producer of NPR's Fresh Air, Terry Gross.
