Bartlett hosting service academies information night

U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md.,will host an Academy Night information session about the U.S. service academies for high school students and their parents on Thursday, Sep. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Susquehanna Bank Building, 1800 Dual Highway in Hagerstown, where his Washington County district office is located.

“If you would like to attend college and serve your country, I urge you to consider America’s finest colleges, our service academies,” Bartlett said.

Information will be available to pick up from all five U.S. service academies during the information session, and representatives of the service academies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to meet individually with students and their parents and to answer any questions.

Nominations from members of Congress are required to apply to the Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., the Naval Academy at Annapolis, the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo., and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.

Students apply directly to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn.

Applications for nominations to a service academy by Bartlett must be delivered to one of his offices no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
