Book drive for literacy program now collecting books

Hagerstown Rotary Literacy Initiative has partnered with Hagerstown Area Religious Council (HARC) and the United Way of Washington County's Day of Caring to collect children's books for use in literacy programs for at-risk children. The collection is under way and will continue through Monday, Oct. 8.

The community is asked to help collect books, specifically for children between the ages of birth and 11. Books can be new or gently used and can be dropped off at one of the following participating locations:

Asbury United Methodist Church; A To Z Insurance Services; Christ's Reformed Church; Concordia Lutheran Church; First United Bank and Trust — all Washington County branches; Gaye McGovern Insurance Agency; Grace United Methodist Church; Hagerstown Church of the Brethren; Hagers- town Rotary Club; Hagerstown Sunrise Rotary Club; Hamilton Nissan; Law Office of Charles R. Stewart; New Joy Fellowship Seventh-day Adventist Church; Oak Hill Interior Design; Otterbein United Methodist Church; Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown; R. Bruce Carson Jewelers; Red Cross of Washington County; St. John's Episcopal Church; St. Joseph Catholic Church; United Way of Washington County; Volunteer Washington County (also collecting old batteries) and Zion United Church of Christ,
