Girl hit by car while riding her bike has minor injuries

September 12, 2012

A 12-year-old girl who was struck by a car while riding her bicycle at the intersection of Elizabeth and West Washington streets Wednesday morning suffered minor injuries, a Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

Deputy 1st Class Carly Hose said Wednesday afternoon that she did not know if the girl was still being treated at Meritus Medical Center.

Investigators determined that the brakes on the bicycle failed as the girl was riding north on Elizabeth Street at about 6:50 a.m., Hose said. The bicycle traveled into the path of a Honda Civic being driven by Kenneth Wiebrecht, who works as a constable at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hose said.

Hose said no charges will be filed.

Hose said she said she didn’t know whether the girl was on her way to school when the accident occurred.
