Part of South Prospect Street to close for improvement project

September 12, 2012

South Prospect Street is closed between West Baltimore and Walnut streets as part of the South Prospect Street Streetscape Improvement Project, according to Erin Wolfe, Communications Manager for the City of Hagerstown.

The road has been closed so workers could remove 19 old trees along it and replace them by planting more than 30 trees, according to Wolfe. The project also includes replacing the sidewalks along South Prospect Street, but that is not scheduled to begin for one and a half to two weeks, according to Wolfe.

The road is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Wolfe said.

Concrete General has been contracted by the city to work on the project for $235,000, and Preferred Tree Service has been subcontracted to work on removing and replacing the trees, Wolfe said.
